Why shopping independent matters more than you think
There are over 5.5 million small businesses in the UK. Who knew? Behind every single one is a real person, reinvesting back into their craft, their makers and their next idea.
Here's why it matters — and why your choices make a real difference.
You're the reason someone's business keeps going
When you shop independent, your money doesn't disappear into a corporate machine. It goes straight back into the business, funding the next collection, paying small manufacturers, keeping the whole thing alive.
For me that's a small studio in London, five years of building something I love and a network of small British makers I'm really proud to work with.
You get something genuinely unique
No mass production, no identical versions of the same thing sitting on a thousand shelves. Just something made with a bit more thought, by someone who really cares about what they're putting out into the world.
It adds up more than you think
Every purchase makes a real difference to the person behind the business. And if enough people make that choice, it adds up.
So if you love an independent maker - tell someone. Share their work, leave a review, buy from them when you can.
